Description

And now for something completely different...

Just something special I worked on to mark the one year anniversary since I first joined DeviantArt. It coincided with the fact that one day I woke up and decided I wanted to have a go at a Team Fortress 2 crossover Artwork. I’ve loved Organization XIII since I first played Kingdom Hearts II, and since I’ve felt inspired by some of the KH art I’ve been faving, I thought: why not? It may not be the best of combinations for a crossover project, but that never stopped me before.

I admit it’s not perfect; IMO some turned out better than others both in class-matching and overall technique + presentation (what can I say, it was small scale drawing and it’s my first ever attempt at drawing these guys). Well, I suppose it helps me improve working with certain mediums. Now, I’ve never actually played TF2 – or certain KH games from start to finish – so when reading my descriptions of each class crossover choice; please don’t get mad if I say something stupid. Now, with the task of narrowing down 13 to 9, I did make a couple of rules when choosing who could be who. Head Nobody Xemnas doesn’t get one because... I don’t know it just didn’t seem right trying to assign the leader a place in a Team where there is no official leader. Zexion has been labelled as ‘not one to dirty his own hands’ so he wouldn’t be one who’d get much of the action. With her sadistic and cruel personality, Larxene could’ve been a contender for Medic or Soldier, but in the end, it wasn’t enough + it leaves her free to be involved in a little ‘plot-twist’ for a side project involving this work (see 3rd to last paragraph). Lastly, for being more tools than willing volunteers; I’ve scratched Roxas and Xion off the contenders list

(From Left to Right)

Axel: The Pyro

Too obvious? Sweating a little... Because he controls Fire, yes I gave this role to Axel. But what also helped in this decision is how – because he basically rebelled against /double-crossed the Organization in more ways than I can count – Axel could be considered the Organization’s outcast. Anyone who’s watched the ‘Meet The...’ videos, wouldn’t you agree the Pyro can be considered the outcast of his Team (even if it’s for different reasons)?

Luxord: The Engineer

Honestly, I don’t have much to back up this decision; it was ‘process of elimination’ mostly. The best justification I can come up with for this crossover is that Luxord controls the power of Time, and in most works of fiction I’ve seen/read/heard of, Time Travellers can very often be considered to be mechanically minded. I didn’t say it was a good justification.

Marluxia: The Spy

Of all the character crossovers in this project, I can’t think of a stronger match than Marluxia and the Spy. Some influence comes from watching the videos of one of my favourite Youtube Countdown Artists (The Green Scorpion) who made a brilliant analysis in his ‘Top 10 Scythe Wielders’ countdown of how – even though I felt this way already – there’s far more to Marluxia than being ‘the one with flower power’ as he’s sometimes referred to (personally, when I was still a KH noob, I used to think his power was over Nature). Combining his use of a Scythe, the fact he can cast ‘Doom’ in the Boss Battles against him, and the symbolic meaning behind the flowers (Cherry Blossoms) and Marluxia’s power may in fact be that of Death. After watching ‘Top Ten Character Themes’ (again, Green Scorpion) it’s easy to see why the Spy can be called ‘an agent of death’. See why I matched these two yet? Further drawing parallels between them, they both share an element of sophistication in their personalities. The Spy may not be the best example, but more often than not Assassins and Hitmen tend to leave flowers on their victims as a calling card (further supporting why I think Marluxia is more of an intimidating enemy than some might perceive). And his nickname is ‘The Graceful Assassin’! If that doesn’t sell you, I don’t know what will.

Wow, that was a long one.I think I've fainted.

Lexaeus: The Heavy

This is perhaps the most simple of my choices. Lexaeus is a big guy and I believe he could wield a colossal gun no problem.

Xigbar: The Sniper

Taking into consideration that he is the only member of the Organization to actually wield a firearm, I reckon Xigbar would be the most efficient with a weapon requiring a great deal of focus and precision.

Demyx: The Scout

I think what cemented this crossover was the ‘Annoyance Factor’ of both Demyx and the Scout. Remember I’ve never played TF2 myself, but from what I’ve heard the Scout has proven to be an annoyance to those who’ve died at his hand both in terms of personality and gameplay. Despite being ‘a poor fighter and a wimp’, Demyx has proven to test players’ nerves with some of his abilities. I can’t be the only one who gets infuriated when the Boss Battle against him ends via his ‘water-clone time limit’ attack. So to summarize, they are both the ‘pain in the asses’ of their respective groups. And...  yeah... I went there... I left a hole in the cap for his hairdo.

Saix: The Soldier

Generally, Saix may not match the soldier personality-wise. But in berserk mode... it’s probably a different story. Also, despite being only No.VII, he is considered to be Xemnas’s second in command, following orders and dishing them out like the Soldier would. And they can both (Saix + Soldier) be arrogant B*****ds when they want to be.

Xaldin: The Demoman

The majority of these crossovers comes with very little backup to justify my choices, and this is no exception. The Demoman specializes in destroying things. Xaldin controls Whirlwinds, Hurricanes, and Tornados, which of course are notorious for their destructive capabilities. Also, learning about Demo’s ‘indirect fire’ ability, I just had this image in my head of one of the Whirlwind Lancer’s Whirlwinds scattering grenades all over the place.

Vexen: The Medic

I know, I know, he’s more of a Scientist than a Doctor but he’s the closest match compared to the rest of the Organization. And quite frankly, when you look over his past experiments that have negatively affected subjects and bystanders alike (e.g. fake Riku, Xion) there has to be something ethically and morally wrong with that (very Medic)!

In future I do intend to create a version with a custom title text, and who’s to say I may not try to create some comic strips spoofing TF2’s ‘Meet The...’ videos starring these guys when I’ve practised more and work out the best way for me to do that. Comments are welcome. Do you have a favourite? Would the Comics be something you’d like to see?

Created with Pro Markers and Pigment Pen, and finished off with a little Adobe Photoshop trickery.

Kingdom Hearts and Organization XIII belong to Square Enix.
Team Fortress 2 belongs to Valve.

Important news regarding AI regulation initiatives.

Concept Art Association (US initiative) has start to ask founds for year 2024. They need our help to regulate AI.

I link here both the projects.

United States project (year 2024)

https://www.gofundme.com/f/37grdj9ofc

European project (year 2023-2024)

https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-protect-our-art-and-data-from-ai-companies

Last year we got great results, since we were able to obtain the first laws on generative AI by European Union and we have taken the discussion into US Congress.

However, even we were able to start the discussion and start the regulation process, is still important to continue to take our point of view during this process, to make more adapt and just regulation, in order to protects the rights of the artists.
